Climate
Rotorua has mild temperatures year round, the average daytime tem-perature range for November is between 9 and 19 degrees Celsius (48 and 67 degrees Fahrenheit). Evenings may be cool. As Rotorua is about an hour's drive from the coast and located in an elevated volcanic caldera, conditions are not as humid as some parts of New Zealand, but you should be prepared for the possibility of rain showers. It is recommended that you bring an umbrella and a jacket.

Currency/Banking
There are many banks situated close to the conference venue which offer currency exchange facilities. Banking hours are commonly 0900-1630 hrs, Monday to Friday. Automatic teller machines (ATMs) are well spread throughout the Rotorua business district. International credit cards are accepted throughout the country and travellers cheques can be changed at banks, hotels, resorts and most city stores.

Dress
Dress for the conference sessions, the welcome function and the conference dinner is tidy casual. A warm jacket and flat shoes are recommended for both social functions.

Electricity
New Zealand uses a 230 volt 50 Hz system with 3 pin flat plugs.

Goods and Services Tax
Goods and services in New Zealand are subject to a 12.5% tax (GST). This tax is usually included in the price and, if not, it is clearly stated. This tax cannot be claimed back by visitors when leaving the country.

Insurance
It is strongly recommended that you purchase comprehensive travel insurance to cover the duration of your visit to New Zealand and to protect you against cancellation charges, loss or damage to your luggage and personal effects, loss of cash, and medical expenses.

Language
English is the common language of New Zealand. Maori, an official language of growing importance, is spoken mainly in the Maori community, and during the powhiri or welcoming ceremony.
