Welcome Keynote Speakers Abstracts Sponsors Visitor Information Rotorua Venue

Welcome

On behalf of the Organising Committee, I am pleased to invite you to participate in the annual Engineering and Physical Sciences in Medicine conference for 2002. This year the usual sponsoring organisations, the Australasian College of Physical Scientists & Engineers in Medicine and IEAust – College of Biomedical Engineers, are joined by the Australasian Radiation Protection Society, and the IEEE Engineering in Medicine & Biology Society is a technical co-sponsor. In addition the conference will incorporate the biennial meeting of the International Commission on Occupational Health – Radiation & Work Committee.

Rotorua is the geothermal centre of New Zealand and has a long history of settlement by New Zealand’s first inhabitants – the Maori people. The conference social programme has been organised to allow you the opportunity to experience the geothermal features and Maori culture at close quarters! And if you are able to extend your stay, there is a wide variety of outdoor activities and sightseeing to enjoy. Volcano tours, lake cruises, 4WD safaris, horse riding, parasailing, jetskiing, white water rafting, mountain biking and hiking are just some of the options.

The Convention Centre venue offers excellent facilities for all conference activities and includes a large Trade Exhibit area. The Centre and all restaurants and accommodation are within easy walking distance, making for a relaxed atmosphere. The natural aroma of a healthy geothermal area serves only to enhance the atmosphere!!

The conference will feature plenary sessions, proffered paper and poster sessions, and continuing education sessions covering a wide range of topics. Some excellent invited speakers have offered their time to come to Rotorua and present their work. There should be something of interest to all physicists and engineers working in the broad health arena.

Many sponsors have helped us put this conference together – may I thank them for their input which I’m sure will prove worthwhile.

I look forward to welcoming you to Rotorua and EPSM 2002 in November.

Isla Nixon

Convenor EPSM 2002
