ACPSEM Medical Research Foundation

ACPSEM Medical Research Foundation

In 2006 the ACPSEM Council resolved to establish the ACPSEM Medical Research Foundation for the purpose of promoting and funding research and development into the causes, prevention, treatment and cure of diseases; as well as to promote education and training in physical sciences in medicine.

In April 2007, the Foundation was registered as a non-profit company, limited by guarantee, (a subsidiary company of the ACPSEM) and in July 2007 was endorsed, by the Australian Taxation Office as a deductible gift recipient. Donations, gifts and bequests to the ACPSEM Medical Research Foundation are tax deductible.

The Foundation funds awards and travel grants for ACPSEM members to attend conferences and to visit overseas departments to extend their research.

The regular awards funded by the Foundation include the

  • Boyce Worthley Young Achiever Award, enabling a young researcher to present their work at an EPSM conference
  • Richard Bates Travel Scholarship which assists in collaborative work overseas
  • David Robinson Innovation Award which assists a member to present innovative work of an engineering or diagnostic imaging nature.

The Foundation is also responsive to requests to assist in specific projects, in particular the assistance to medical endeavours in developing countries. The PNG radiotherapy project is one example of this.

Members are invited to propose research projects in which the Foundation may become involved. Also, the Foundation Board would be pleased to consider suggestions for raising funds. Enquiries regarding the Foundation should be initially addressed to the ACPSEM office – email: This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
