About the Role

Health Physics Services Limited is seeking a motivated graduate Trainee Medical Physicist to join our growing Auckland diagnostic imaging medical physics team. This is a full-time, flexible role involving both clinical and research work.

You will have the opportunity to gain hands-on medical physics experience across CT, MRI, Cardiac and Vascular Angiography, Mammography, Digital Radiography, PET-CT, SPECT-CT, Dental CBCT, Fluoroscopy imaging modalities.

The position offers an excellent balance of technical, clinical, and research exposure, ideally suited to a recent MSc Medical Physics graduate eligible for entry into the ACPSEM Diagnostic Imaging Medical Physics (DIMP) TEAP program.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct performance testing and quality assurance of X-ray and nuclear medicine imaging equipment.
  • Provide radiation shielding design specification and compliance documentation.
  • Deliver radiation safety training for radiology staff in person and via webinars.
  • Participate in applied medical imaging research, data analysis, and software/hardware development in conjunction with MyXrayDose.com as a co-owned radiology software business.
  • Support radiology customers in meeting their quality assurance & radiation safety requirements.

The role includes full-time (40hrs per week) flexible working arrangements with the anticipated work pattern being similar to:
3 days per week working at customer premises testing imaging equipment
2 days per week in a shared coworking office with the core team with work from home as a negotiable option.

Some regular evening and weekend hours to accommodate customers' clinical operational requirements is a part of the role with some flexibility as to which evenings or weekend days are included. Travel away from Auckland for several days at a time will be required from time to time.

Training and Development

You will be provided with supervised training on each of the imaging modalities and work closely under the supervision of an experienced medical physicist during your training phase while you work towards ACPSEM DIMP certification. The initial training phase is anticipated to last around three years. The role provides for rapid progression as you demonstrate the ability to work independently, safely and competently.

Job Requirement


  • MSc in Medical Physics (or equivalent) from an ACPSEM Accredited University.
  • Eligibility for ACPSEM DIMP training program enrolment.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and technical skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication and professional presentation skills.
  • Self-motivated, organised, and detail oriented.
  • Willingness to travel and work flexible hours.
  • Current New Zealand drivers license.
  • Hold or are eligible for New Zealand citizenship.

Experience in diagnostic imaging, radiation dosimetry, and computer programming in an object-oriented language is advantageous but not essential.Recently qualified ACPSEM DIMP candidates are also encouraged to apply.
