Australian “Supporting Medical Physicist including RPS” Grants

The purpose of this article is to advise that the extension of the ACPSEM’s contract with the Australian Department of Health until 31 December 2021 has been confirmed and therefore we can announce that there will be a 2021 grant round opening by 18 December 2020 with applications due by 20 February 2021.

The application form and draft contract will be available by 18 December 2020. Grants will close on 20 February 2021 and successful applicants announced by early March 2021. We will advertise that they are available on social media and via another update similar to this one.

Grants will vary in duration according to whether registrars are enrolling in TEAP (3 years of grant funding) or already enrolled (1-2 years of grant funding). This is a change from previous grant rounds but with limited funding available.

A further change in this round is that applicants will need to sign a declaration that at the time of the application they have an approved position that can be filled without delay after being advised of the grant outcome. Should grants not be utilized within 6 months of being offered the grant offer will lapse and offered instead to others on a register of suitable applicants derived from this application round.

In early 2021 the ACPSEM will consult with state workforce planners to determine whether there is justification to give priority to particular disciplines in the grant round. Over the two years of the program balance of grants offered has shifted from 2/3 ROMP vs Other to equal proportions, driven primarily by the developing RPS discipline and the evolution of radiology and nuclear medicine programs in NSW.

In the meantime please contact Sharon Flynn with any questions or discussion points.
