Session 1: Building an Effective Team – communication for safety
Learn how to effectively communicate within a team. We will go through validated frameworks on how to raise safety concerns and build a safety culture in your team. It is not enough to be right. You have to be able to effectively communicate your ideas. Most friction in a physics team is not actually about the physics.
Session 2: Multidisciplinary Communication — Structure That Prevents Misfire
Structured communication frameworks applied to real medical physics scenarios
— referrals, escalations, handoffs, and incident reporting. Avoid miscommunications that can lead to poor patient outcomes.
Session 3: Communicating with Non- Radiation Professionals
Communicating shielding design rationale, occupational dose constraints, and radiation risk to facilities managers, administrators, and non-specialist colleagues.
Covers the communication responsibilities of the Radiation Safety Officer role, including engagement with regulatory bodies.
Session 4: Patient Communication in a Medical Physics Context
Practical approaches to patient-facing encounters in simulation, in vivo dosimetry, and physics consults. Covers how to introduce the physicist's role, explain procedures clearly, and respond to patient questions with accuracy and clinical appropriateness.
