AI Working Group

The ACPSEM Artificial Intelligence Working Group

Overview

The ACPSEM Artificial Intelligence Working Group (AIWG) was formed to facilitate the safe and effective development and clinical deployment of AI-integrated technologies in healthcare. ACPSEM members are positioned at the coal face of this rapidly evolving field and have significant influence over how the associated technologies are implemented. The role of the AIWG is to provide advice on integration of the relevant concepts across education, training, clinical deployment and research.

Activities

The AIWG terms of reference can be found here

The AIWG operates in four domains:
  • Clinical Applications and the profession: identifying issues specific to clinical implementation including identification of products/solutions integrating AI technology; developing recommendations for commissioning and ongoing quality assurance of AI technologies; supporting ACPSEM members in clinical deployment of AI.
  • Standards and Codes of Practice: highlighting the implications of AI technologies for operating standards; identifying national and international standards and legislation that will impact deployment of AI; lobbying for and having input into legislation including product regulation; identifying the potential impact on the safety of patients and staff and ensuring firm ethical foundations for ensuring safety and efficacy.
  • Education and Training: providing recommendations on education and training requirements of ACPSEM members as relevant to tertiary courses, the Training, Education and Assessment Program, and ongoing continuing professional development; the development of relevant symposia and workshops; the development of relevant conference sessions.
  • Research: equipping members with the knowledge, tools and capability to contribute to meaningful AI-focussed research; enabling execution of AI-focussed research by facilitating collaborations, linking researchers with expertise including industry; enabling implementation and translation by ensuring alignment with standards and commercialisation pathways.

The ACPSEM has endorsed the “Ethical Principles for Artifical Intelligence in Medicine” from the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Radiologists, which can be obtained here.
