Professional Standards

The ACPSEM is responsible for the Professional Standards that direct the safe and clinically competent practice of medical physicists and radiopharmaceutical scientists working in Australia and New Zealand. These standards inform our certification and registration programs to ensure that all services provided by our members are consistent with accepted national and international standards of quality, efficiency and safety.

Our Professional Standards cover elements such as quality assurance, patient dosimetry, treatment planning and delivery, facility management, radiation safety, and incident management. These are crucial to ensuring that all patients are diagnosed and treated in a manner that is safe, effective and affording of every opportunity for recovery.

Our Professional Standards are informed by Australian and New Zealand legislative and regulatory requirements, international evidence and standards, and the care and safety needs of all clinical staff, patients and their families.

The ACPSEM also works with the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Radiologists (RANZCR), the Australian Institute of Radiography, the Australian Radiation Protection and Nuclear Safety Agency (ARPANSA), and many other groups and government bodies to develop the standards applied to radiation therapy and diagnostic and interventional imaging.

THE PROFESSIONAL STANDARDS BOARD (PSB)

The ACPSEM Board has delegated to the PSB the role of setting and maintaining professional standards policies for ACPSEM. This extends to overseeing their implementation and ensuring compliance with them. The PSB manages the overall training, education and appeals processes for medical physicists and radiopharmaceutical scientists participating in ACPSEM's certification (TEAP), registration, and CPD programs.
