ACPSEM accredits clinical departments that employ, train and supervise ACPSEM TEAP Registrars and post-graduate university courses that offer education in Medical Physics.
A compulsory component of the ACPSEM Training and Education Program (TEAP) for the Medical Physics and Radiopharmaceutical Science professions is received in the clinical environment of a hospital department. ACPSEM takes responsibility for ensuring these clinical training components provide adequate and consistent work experience, teaching, and supervision by accrediting the departments that execute them.
The Accreditation process ensures that a department has the appropriate facilities, systems, and staff in place to employ and train registrars so that they may achieve the required depth and breadth of knowledge for certification in their specialty.
In cases where a single department is unable to provide the entire program of in-service, competency-based training, the department may still achieve accreditation provided it formally arranges for its registrar(s) to access the remainder of their training at another accredited facility. Departments can also form networks with other departments or institutions for accreditation as a network.
The ACPSEM accredits postgraduate courses of study in medical physics to ensure their suitability in preparing Medical Physicists with the necessary depth and breadth of knowledge required to commence and succeed in clinical training. The ACPSEM accreditation process seeks to ensure that a University course is up to-date with contemporary methods of medical physics practice, and suitably challenging as a whole.
Anyone wishing to pursue a career in Medical Physics should ensure that they enrol in an accredited course of study.

The ACPSEM determines fees for the purposes of university and department accreditation each financial year. Accreditation fees for nationally networked accreditation will be invoiced for each state within the network, not for each individual site. A current list of fees can be found here.
To ensure you understand the application process and the expectations of your department/faculty, please make sure you are familiar with the ACPSEM Accreditation Policy and Procedure. The Accreditation Procedure in particular outlines the application and assessment process for accreditation for both clinical departments and universities.

Reaccreditation
Clinical Departments:
Departments must undergo a reaccreditation process every three years.
The reaccreditation process is initiated by ACPSEM. Using data and reports relevant to a department's accreditation (status reviews, APRs, etc.), the ACPSEM will compile a report that assesses whether the department in question has met the requirements for reaccrediation, based on specific criteria. In cases where departments are found to not to have met reaccreditation requirements, or to have partially met them, the department will be required to address any unfulfilled criteria and/or concerns
Universities:
At the expiration of a period of full or provisional accreditation, the ACPSEM will arrange for the University or Clinical Department to be re-accredited.
