ACPSEM Position Statement on the Role of Physicists,Scientists and Engineers in Medicine in Australasia

RADIATION ONCOLOGY PRACTICE STANDARDS

These standards were developed by the Radiation Oncology Alliance (ROA), formerly known as the Tripartite. The ROA is a peak body comprising members from The Faculty of Radiation Oncology, RANZCR; the Australian Society of Medical Imaging and Radiation Therapy (ASMIRT); Cancer Nurses Society of Australia (CSNA) and ACPSEM. The standards are intended to guide multi-disciplinary delivery of clinical services in radiation oncology and are designed to be applied throughout Australia and New Zealand (different versions have been published to take into account local legislation, regulations and rulings).

The ACPSEM strongly supports and encourages the adoption and implementation of the standards.

RADIATION ONCOLOGY POSITION PAPERS

The Radiation Oncology Specialty Group (ROSG) publishes quality assurance papers on behalf of the ACPSEM.

MR LINAC POSITION PAPERS
THE RADIATION ONCOLOGY WORKFORCE MODELLING PROJECT:

The ACPSEM Radiation Oncology Medical Physics Workforce Modelling Project was initiated in October 2020 to look at practices in Australia and New Zealand and to develop a workforce model. The two major outcomes of the project were launched in November of 2021: a snapshot of the ROMP workforce and an activity-based workforce calculator for use at departmental and higher levels.

RADIOLOGY POSITION PAPERS

The ACPSEM has also published a number of position papers in Diagnostic Radiology:

After recommendation from the Radiology Leadership Committee, the ACPSEM Board voted at its August 2019 meeting to endorse the AAPM Position Statement on the Use of Patient Gonadal and Fetal Shielding.

MEDICAL IMAGE REGISTRATION POSITION PAPERS

The effective implementation of deformable image registration (DIR) provides the potential for significant advancements in margin reduction, adaptive radiotherapy, and biological modelling. For all this promise, current DIR algorithms vary considerably in their ability to safely meet these goals. The release of this position paper from the ACPSEM Medical Image Registration Special Interest Group (MIRSIG) provides support for the Australasian clinical community with guidelines for the safe use of DIR technology.
