Revising the ARPANSA Radiation Protection Series
ACPSEM is excited to announce an important opportunity for you to contribute to the advancement of medical radiation safety practices.
ARPANSA are commencing a project to review and update the existing Radiation Protection Series (RPS) 14 safety guides.
Why we need you
The existing RPS 14 Safety Guides covering diagnostic and interventional radiology, nuclear medicine, and radiotherapy, were last published in 2008. Since then, there have been significant advancements in medical radiation practices and underlying codes.
ARPANSA is seeking input from experts in the medical radiation communities to ensure the guides reflect current best practices, national and international standards, and the latest technological advancements. The ACPSEM has the opportunity to nominate suitably qualified members to contribute to these updates.
Working Group details
Three working groups will be convened to undertake this vital project:
- RPS 14.1 Safety Guide for Radiation Protection in Diagnostic and Interventional Radiology: 2 ACPSEM expert nominees
- RPS 14.2 Safety Guide for Radiation Protection in Nuclear Medicine: 1 ACSPEM expert nominee
- RPS 14.3 Safety Guide for Radiation Protection in Radiotherapy: 2 ACPSEM expert nominees
The project is planned to run over two years. The first 12 months will be drafting of the revised safety guides, followed by multiple rounds of consultation during the second year.
Responsibilities:
- Participate in discussions about the structure and content of the guides
- Prepare and review draft texts
- Consider early feedback from key stakeholders before public consultation
Commitment:
- Monthly online meetings during the drafting stage
- Additional time drafting and reviewing documents between meetings in the drafting phase
- Review and response to comments received during the consultation processes phase
