The latest issue of Physical and Engineering Sciences in Medicine is now published!
The Australasian College of Physical Scientists and Engineers in Medicine (ACPSEM) is pleased to announce the publication of Volume 49, Issue 3 (September 2026) of Physical and Engineering Sciences in Medicine (PESM) - the official journal of ACPSEM.
This substantial issue brings together 58 articles spanning the breadth of physical and engineering sciences in medicine, including medical imaging, radiotherapy, radiation dosimetry, quality assurance, artificial intelligence and machine learning, biomedical engineering, and emerging clinical technologies.
The issue also features an important Editorial on author responsibility in peer review, together with a thought-provoking Topical Debate examining whether academic and scholarly journals have outlived their usefulness.
Among the research contributions are studies addressing AI-based medical imaging, paediatric CT diagnostic reference levels, radiotherapy treatment planning, PET/CT reconstruction, adaptive radiotherapy, proton therapy, MRI, ultrasound and a range of other emerging applications.
The issue also includes important contributions directly relevant to clinical practice, including work on HDR brachytherapy quality assurance, commissioning and QA for robotic radiosurgery, and radiation dose optimisation.
We thank all the authors, reviewers, Associate Editors and Editorial Board members whose contributions make the continued publication of high-quality, peer-reviewed research possible.
