Job Description
The Brachytherapy Radiation Oncology Medical Physicist Advanced provides a high level of scientific and technological expertise for the delivery of safe and accurate Brachytherapy treatments in accordance with Sunshine Coast Hospital and Health Service and Queensland Health goals.
We are seeking a ACPSEM registered ROMP to support the current and expanding brachytherapy service. This new role will integrate into the Brachytherapy operational structure, reporting to the Brachytherapy Lead ROMP and be capable of an advanced role within a small team of mixed disciplines. The successful candidate will develop both clinical and commissioning skills within the Brachytherapy team due to planned expansion of interstitial prostate and GYN brachytherapy services.
The department currently offers a skin Brachytherapy service (Flexitron, Imaging Ring, Mosaiq and Oncentra), as well as a Siemens definition CT scanner supported by motion management & artefact reduction algorithms, with additional access to PET/CT and CT/MRI imaging facilities in the Medical Imaging department.
The Brachytherapy Radiation Oncology Medical Physicist Advanced working in Cancer Care Services reports operationally to the Lead Brachytherapy ROMP and professionally to the Director Radiation Oncology Medical Physics.

Job Requirement
Your responsibilities:
- Provide high level advice, using evidence-based practice, to Radiation Oncologists and Radiation Therapists on the physics of Brachytherapy, including high dose rate (HDR) and interstitial Brachytherapy ensuring optimised patient treatment.
- Display a high level of knowledge within Brachytherapy, maintaining links with state, national and international centres and independent auditors to ensure best practic
- Be capable of providing treatment planning, delivery and radiation safety support services for all aspects of a complex Brachytherapy service.
Mandatory requirements:
- Listing on the register of Qualified Medical Physics Specialists of the Australasian College of Physical Scientists and Engineers in Medicine (ACPSEM) as a Radiation Oncology Medical Physicist or equivalent.
- Accreditation with the Australasian College of Physical Scientists and Engineers in Medicine in Radiation Oncology Medical Physics or Equivalent.
- While not mandatory, a PhD degree in medical physics or equivalent would be well regarded.
- A license to use radiation apparatus and sources issued under the Radiation Safety Act 1999, or eligibility to apply for license.
