The Radiation Oncology Medical Physicist (ROMP) - Consultant(HP6) provides expert level knowledge, skills and clinical leadership abilities for the delivery of safe and accurate Radiation Oncology treatments in accordance with Sunshine Coast Health (SCH) and Queensland Health goals. We are seeking a ACPSEM registered ROMP to oversee all medical physics aspects of stereotactic radiotherapy services within the Radiation Oncology department, including the ongoing safety and sustainability of current services and the establishment of an intracranial stereotactic service. The role will also assist the ROMP Director in a deputy role to provide clinical leadership as an expert specialist in radiation oncology medical physics and clinical operations as required.

Job Requirement


Key responsibilities:

  • Integrate into the new ROMP operational structure with managerial responsibilities and be capable of leading a small team with a focus on stereotactic radiotherapy.
  • Demonstrate an expert level of knowledge, skills and advanced clinical leadership abilities with respect to the ongoing safety and sustainability of current and future stereotactic radiotherapy services at SCH.
  • Provide regular expert consultancy to internal and external bodies, agencies, and the public about professional, technical and ethical aspects of ROMPs and radiation safety at a Departmental, District Area, State and National level.
  • Exhibit leadership and maintain governance of clinical trials (e.g. TROG sponsored) in Radiation Oncology through the development of professional competence, ensuring ROMP Quality Assurance (QA) prodcedures align with best practice at the stage and national level.

Mandatory requirements:

  • Listing on the register of Qualified Medical Physics Specialists of the Australasian College of Physical Scientists and Engineers in Medicine (ACPSEM) as a Radiation Oncology Medical Physicist or equivalent.
  • Accreditation with the Australasian College of Physical Scientists and Engineers in Medicine in Radiation Oncology Medical Physics or Equivalent.
  • While not mandatory, a PhD degree in medical physics or equivalent would be well regarded.
  • A license to use radiation apparatus and sources issued under the Radiation Safety Act 1999, or eligibility to apply for license.
