Job Description


Position purpose

This is a three-year full-time entry level position where the diagnostic imaging medical physicist (DIMP) registrar undertakes closely supervised practice whilst in training. Closely supervised practice means the maintenance of a close degree of oversight on all medical physics work undertaken by the Senior DIMP/RSO.

The DIMP registrar will be mentored and guided to develop knowledge and understanding of the role, functions and duties of medical physicists with priority given to radiation safety and education. The DIMP registrar will work in all aspects of medical physics and radiation safety. The DIMP registrar will perform testing of radiology and/or nuclear medicine equipment to ensure compliance with the Victorian regulatory requirements and relevant Australian Standards. The DIMP registrar will play an active role in the facilitation of the Medical Imaging Department’s quality assurance program. Working under the close supervision of a senior DIMP/RSO. The DIMP registrar will be fully involved in all aspects of providing a clinical diagnostic imaging medical physics service. The DIMP registrar will enrol in the Australasian College of Physical Scientists and Engineers in Medicine (ACPSEM) DIMP Training Education and Assessment Program (TEAP) program with the aim to complete the training within the three-year employment period.




Job Requirement


  • Bachelor’s degree in Physics, Medical Physics, or a closely related discipline.
  • Completed (or close to completing) an ACPSEM accredited postgraduate program in medical physics.
  • Eligible to undertake the TEAP Diagnostic Medical Physics training program and meet the relevant training/educational requirements.
  • Professional membership: Membership or eligibility for membership of the relevant professional body, such as the Australasian College of Physical Scientists and Engineers in Medicine (ACPSEM).
  • Ability to meet any applicable registration, credentialing, or employment requirements of the relevant health service and jurisdiction.
