Health New Zealand - Te Whatu Ora are seeking Senior Medical Physicist to join our Specialist Physics teams nationally. Whether you're seeking a role in a large tertiary centre with research opportunities or in dynamic regional services shaping local patient pathways - we have positions that fit your career goals.

About the role

As a Senior Medical Physicist, you'll ensure the safe and effective use of ionising radiation across clinical services, including diagnostic radiology, radiation therapy, and nuclear medicine.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • overseeing and performing complex quality assurance and equipment calibration
  • ensuring regulatory compliance and radiation safety policies
  • collaborating closely with clinical teams, Radiologists, Radiation Oncologists, and Technologists
  • leading service improvement projects, audits, and hazard investigations
  • mentoring and supervising junior physicists and other staff.

Roles are available across both large academic hospitals and trusted regional services, enabling you to lead at the forefront of technology, safety, and patient care.

Who we're looking for

You'll need to be eligible for Registration as a Clinical Respiratory or Medical Physicist with the Medical Sciences Council of New Zealand (or working toward it) with significant clinical physics experience, especially in radiation therapy or diagnostic imaging.

You'll also bring:

  • demonstrated excellence in quality assurance, dosimetry, or compliance
  • strong collaborative skills and clear communication with clinical teams
  • leadership in radiation safety and proactive risk management
  • a commitment to equity, cultural safety, and high-quality patient care.

Pay and benefits includes the following:

  • Salary set according to SMO-aligned Physics pay scales and experience
