ACPSEM Strategic Plan
ACPSEM is pleased to share our new 2026 - 2028 Strategic Plan, setting a clear direction for how the College will support members, protect patients, and advance the professions we represent over the next three years.
As the peak professional body for medical physicists, biomedical engineers, and radiopharmaceutical scientists across Australia and New Zealand, ACPSEM plays a vital role in upholding professional standards, supporting education and certification, advocating for our professions, and helping ensure patients benefit from safe, high-quality, innovative healthcare.
Our new Strategic Plan builds on that foundation. It reflects who we are as a College, the changing environment our members are working in, and the opportunities ahead for physical sciences in healthcare.
At the centre of the Plan is a clear vision: for ACPSEM to be the driving force in physical sciences in healthcare across Australia and New Zealand, upholding standards, driving innovation, and advancing excellence in diagnosis and treatment to improve health outcomes for patients.
The Plan is guided by five strategic priorities: Our Members, Education, Our Professions, Sustainability, and Research.
Our Members focus on strengthening the value of College membership across all professions, roles and career stages. This includes developing a clearer Member Value Proposition, improving the visibility of College activities, and exploring how ACPSEM can continue to grow and represent the breadth of professionals contributing to physical sciences in healthcare.
Education remains central to ACPSEM’s purpose. Over the next three years, we will continue to support high-quality training, certification and continuing professional development. The Plan includes actions to enhance CPD resources, support members in both technical and non-technical skill development, progress the Education 2030 program, and explore innovative models for education delivery and supervision, including remote supervision and AI-enabled tools.
Our Professions recognise ACPSEM’s important advocacy and leadership role. The College will continue working to strengthen the visibility, recognition and influence of medical physicists and radiopharmaceutical scientists, while supporting members with clearer resources that communicate the scope and value of each profession. This includes continued advocacy for national registration and recognition pathways in Australia and New Zealand.
Sustainability is about ensuring ACPSEM remains strong, relevant and financially secure so we can continue to serve members into the future. The Plan identifies opportunities to diversify revenue, strengthen partnerships, support and recognise volunteers, review the Better Healthcare Technology Foundation, and improve internal systems so the College can work more effectively.
Research is also a key priority. ACPSEM will support members to build research capability across clinical, academic and industry settings, while increasing the visibility and impact of member research and strengthening the profile of Physical and Engineering Sciences in Medicine.
Importantly, this Plan recognises that ACPSEM’s work is only possible through the expertise, leadership and voluntary contribution of our members. Our Committees, Branches, Specialty Groups, Special Interest Groups and Working Groups are central to the College’s impact.
The 2026 - 2028 Strategic Plan gives us a shared roadmap for the years ahead. It is ambitious, practical and member-focussed. It reflects our commitment to service, safety and quality, excellence and innovation, patient-centred impact, trust and integrity, and collaboration.
Members are encouraged to read the full Strategic Plan and consider how they may wish to contribute to the College’s work over the next three years.
