Important Update from the Better Healthcare Technology Foundation

ACPSEM members are advised of an immediate governance change relating to the Better Technology Healthcare Foundation (BHTF), the College’s charitable fund-raising and distribution arm.
Following careful consideration, the BHTF Board has recommended that oversight and governance of the Foundation be transferred to ACPSEM. The ACPSEM Board has welcomed this recommendation and accepted responsibility for the management and stewardship of the Foundation’s residual funds, in line with the intentions outlined by the Foundation Board.
As part of this transition, an interim Foundation Board has been appointed to oversee current operations and support the effective allocation of available funds. The interim Board comprises ACPSEM Vice President Ben Hug, ACPSEM Chief Executive Officer Di Robinson, and independent director Simon Downes, who is continuing from the previous Foundation Board.
Importantly, all existing Foundation funds will continue to be used for their originally intended purposes throughout the transition process. Current activities and support arrangements will also continue while the governance changes are implemented.
ACPSEM acknowledges and sincerely thanks Dale Bailey and the Foundation Directors for their leadership, dedication, and commitment to supporting education, research, international outreach, and the professions represented within the College. Members with questions about the transition can contact ACPSEM Chief Executive Officer Di Robinson.

Statement from Dale Bailey, former Better Healthcare Technology Foundation Chair:
"After careful consideration, the directors of the Better Technology Healthcare Foundation (“the Foundation”), the charitable fund-raising and distribution arm of the ACPSEM (“the College”), have recommended that oversight and governance of the Foundation be transferred to the College. This step will support the next phase of the Foundation’s development.
The Foundation has recently made progress in simplifying its administrative structures and has outlined a clear vision for its future role as the College’s organ for fund-raising and distribution of financial support for a range of activities including enabling cross-disciplinary workshops, funding pilot research studies to lead on to larger funding applications, and continuing its valuable contributions outside of Australia & New Zealand by supporting the development of expertise and training for professions within the ACPSEM across the APAC region.
The College has endorsed the Foundation’s proposal for the implementation of the next phase of its activities in the “Future Proof – Better Healthcare Technology Foundation 2.0” report which proposes embedding the Foundation and its activities within the College’s Specialty Groups and SIGs. The board believes that this deeper integration with College members would be better implemented from within the existing College structures, ensuring stronger alignment with the College’s broader activities and priorities.
All existing funds held by the Foundation will remain dedicated to their original intended purposes as the transition to direct College oversight occurs. The Foundation’s current activities and support arrangements will continue throughout the transition period.
The Foundation directors listed below unanimously and wholeheartedly endorse this development as the next logical step for the Foundation enabling it to continue supporting and expanding activities of the College’s members.
Sincerely,
Dale Bailey
On behalf of The Better Healthcare Technology Foundation Board (Dale Bailey, Clive Baldock, Jayne Senior, Simon Downes, Ivan Williams)

Response from Michael Bernardo, ACPSEM President:
"The Board of the Australasian College of Physical Scientists and Engineers in Medicine (ACPSEM) welcomes the recommendation from the Better Technology Healthcare Foundation (BHTF) Board to transition oversight and governance of the Foundation to ACPSEM.
On behalf of the ACPSEM Board, I would like to sincerely thank Dale Bailey and all Foundation Directors for their dedication, leadership, and ongoing commitment to supporting the professions represented within the College.
The Foundation has played an important role in enabling initiatives across education, research, and international outreach, and we acknowledge the significant efforts undertaken to position the Foundation for its next phase.
The ACPSEM Board is pleased to accept responsibility for the management and stewardship of the Foundation’s residual funds in line with the vision and strategy outlined by the Foundation Board. This includes the objectives outlined in the “Future Proof – Better Healthcare Technology Foundation 2.0” report.
To support this transition, an interim Foundation Board has replaced the previous Foundation Board to oversee the Foundation’s operations and help ensure that available funds are allocated effectively. The aim is to facilitate this through clearly defined projects and initiatives that align with the College’s strategic priorities. The interim Board is ACPSEM Vice President Ben Hug, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Di Robinson and independent director Simon Downes (Simon is continuing from his role on the previous Foundation Board).
All existing Foundation funds will continue to be used for their originally intended purposes throughout the transition process.
If you have any questions regarding this transition, please contact Di Robinson, Chief Executive Officer of ACPSEM.
Kind regards,
Michael Bernardo
