The Medical Image Registration Special Interest Group (MIRSIG) is pleased to announce that its Position Statement on "The use of image registration and fusion algorithms in radiotherapy" has been published in Physical and Engineering Sciences in Medicine.
The effective implementation of deformable image registration (DIR) provides the potential for significant advancements in margin reduction, adaptive radiotherapy, and biological modelling. For all this promise, current DIR algorithms vary considerably in their ability to safely meet these goals. The release of this position paper provides support for the Australasian clinical community with guidelines for the safe use of DIR technology.
