Director, Medical Physics (Job ref: 792296)

The Director, Medical Physics will provide high level clinical leadership and management to Medical Physics & Engineering in Radiation Oncology with an integral role in promoting and facilitating a multidisciplinary integrated approach within the Radiation Oncology Department and senior medical professionals that ensures accountability and safety in the delivery of best practice radiation therapy to patients.

The Director, Medical Physics will be involved in tender and procurement of physics and radiation therapy equipment in the public sector, associated IT components and software and implementation of nationally recommended codes of practice for all aspects of dosimetry for treatment delivery equipment and will be responsible for the department commissioning, quality assurance and maintenance programme for radiation devices utilising a collaborative approach between manufacturers and stakeholders for a diverse range of systems. The Director, Medical Physics will include partnership discussions with the Australian Bragg Centre for Proton Therapy and Research.

The Director, Medical Physics will be required to contribute high level advice in relation to clinical and scientific issues in areas of specialised radiation treatment techniques including proton therapy, SRS, SABR, VMAT, IMRT, 3DCRT, HDR & LDR Brachytherapy, superficial x-ray, TBI, TBE and radiobiology modelling, and work closely with Senior RT staff and Radiation Oncologists, t support all aspects of the planning and delivery of these techniques.

The Director, Medical Physics is responsible for radiation safety as CALHN Assistant Radiation Protection Officer (RSO) ensuring the management of radiation safety is in accordance with the state regulator (Envirnment Protection Agency) and Commonwealth (Australian Radiation Protection and Nuclear Safety Agency) requirements. This role is accountable for the radiation safety and governance of the Radiation Oncology Department as well as supports the CALHN RSO with organisational wide responsibilities, such as education, training and audit.

This role takes a lead role in research and trials coordination across the department as well as contributes to the wider leadership of the clinical program.

The role included professional leadership of all medical physicicts in the depatment as well as membership on the CALHN Allied Health Leadership team.

Registration with the ACPSEM Register of Qualifed Medical Physics Specialists in Radiation Oncology is required.
