You will be directly supervise and lead a multidisciplinary team to develop new technologies to test and verify emerging therapies and treatment techniques. Housed together in ARPANSA’s Melbourne office, the ACDS works closely with Australia’s Primary Standards Dosimetry Laboratory on several research initiatives including proton dosimetry and Monte Carlo modelling projects. Collaborating with the Clinical Operations Lead and Research ROMP, you will work closely with industry partners and clinical staff to drive innovation and best-practice techniques for assessing modern radiotherapy treatment modalities in a nationwide dosimetric auditing program. This will include designing, performing and interpreting the outcomes from complex dosimetry measurements.

The secondary purpose of the role is to perform dosimetry audits for the ACDS, as well as lead and develop the auditors in the program, at radiotherapy facilities across Australia and New Zealand. This is an opportunity to not only contribute to clinical outcomes and patient safety, but also collaborate with colleagues and develop ideas that can improve radiotherapy for patients across the country.

The Medical Physics Lead represents the ACDS to professional radiation oncology organisations and leads the ACDS’ scientific contributions to publications and conferences of national and international relevance. • Perform complex dosimetry measurements for the ACDS, both in ARPANSA and in radiotherapy clinics. Measurements will include treatment dose assessment using phantoms, beam characterisation and linac output.
  • Perform high-level data analysis and interpretation of audit results. Review audit reports and recommendations to ensure sound scientific basis and clarity while remaining sensitive to the customer’s clinical needs.
  • Provide advice as to the maintenance and development of the ANZ Dataset for internal quality control and audit benchmarking. Present reports to the Clinical Advisory Group quarterly and as required.
  • Develop SOPs and the ACDS competency matrix within the ACDS quality manual.
  • Liaise with radiotherapy facilities and promote the service. Collaborate with radiotherapy centres, clinical trials groups and professional bodies to improve the audit services and tailor them to clinical requirements, including abiding by state and federal health department recommendations.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with other internal services in ARPANSA who provide technical and administrative support to the audit program.
