FREE EVENT --The ACPSEM Medical Image Registration Special Interest Group (MIRSIG) Online Webinars: July 2020

We are a group of medical physicists and radiation therapists that are keenly interested in all aspects of image registration.  As image registration is such an integral part of radiation oncology, we would like to extend our knowledge in the field to all of our radiation therapy community.
A lunchtime series of webinars will be conducted on the first Tuesday of the month from 12-1pm (AEST).  This series is free and open to all RTs, Physicists and ROs.

Talk and learning objectives:
Talk 1:
An international survey on the clinical use of rigid and deformable image registration in radiotherapy –Presented by Johnson Yuen
Learning objectives:

  • Understand international and ANZ patterns of deformable registration by clinical application
  • Understand how deformable registration uptake varie
    • By anatomical site
    • By image modality
    • In uptake of different DIR systems
    • In quality management strategies for DIR
  • Understand how
    • Staff roles for DIR have evolved for physicist, RTs, and ROs
    • Centres have considered the benefits, risks, and trade-offs in the use of DIR

Talk 2:
Deforming to best practice: Key considerations for deformable image registration in radiotherapy - Presented by Jeffrey Barber
Learning objectives

  • Know strategies for evaluation and implementation of DIR in multidisciplinary radiotherapy workflows
  • Appreciate limitations of DIR for applications in radiotherapy
  • Apply best practice recommendations to the use of DIR in radiotherapy

Please feel free to invite anyone who would benefit from these webinars.  As numbers are limited to 500, a zoom link will be sent to those who are registered for this webinar. These webinars are interactive and all questions and comments are welcome. PDF copies of the presentations will be available after the webinar. Register at least one day before to receive the webinar link.

Presenters:

Laurel Schmidt is the research radiation therapist at St George. Her work with clinical trials has led to a close relationship with TROG where she was doing clinical trial QA using first SWAN and then MIM software. Laurel has followed up her initial training with image registration, to set up protocols for both MIM and Velocity. Her involvement with image registration has included giving a number of presentations around Australia as well as training staff from other departments.

Johnson Yuen is a medical physicist who is passionate about medical image registration, particularly in finding appropriate uses for deformable image registration that has a positive impact for radiotherapy treatments. Currently, he chairs a new ACPSEM medical image registration special interest group (MIRSIG) that aims to facilitate practical solutions produced by, and is of service to, all stakeholders involved with medical image registration

Jeffrey Barber is a Senior Radiation Oncology Medical Physicist working in the Sydney West Radiation Oncology Network (Westmead/Blacktown/Nepean). Jeff is enthusiastic about understanding and improving uncertainties in radiotherapy, and has been involved in the development and implementation of many advanced techniques. He is completing a PhD on modulation and image registration.
